Cambridge Satchel Co. Make It a Revolution

Psst... what's a lot of neon and a little bit of fur?

Any guesses?  Any guesses at all?

It's this beauty.

My brand spanking new Cambridge Satchel Company Fluoro bag in bright orange! Plus a very suiting faux fox tail from Front and Company.

I first saw this bag when I was in Montreal during the summer time. This very stylish girl wore her bright pink one with a simple outfit and neon shoes. I knew I want my very own!

I love bags that are so bright it can't possibly match anything, yet it matches everything.

I am so glad this it bag can be had at retailers such as Holt Renfrew and Aritzia. They have also expanded to Shopbop and Bloomingdales. As outlined by this concise PurseBlog entry.

Here she is in action. Can you guess where we are?

How about now?

Make it the Handmade revolution the scene

Looks like a bustling place, wherever it is.

Give up?

Well, we were at Make It! The Handmade Revolution fair.

I won tickets to this fair via one of the Modline's facebook contest. The Modline is an online grab mag of everything about local Vancouver Fashion, Music and Art. I have had the pleasure of knowing some of the writers and they are a bunch of the most positive and talented people one can meet.

I was so pumped about the event especially since I found out about it via the Modline.

Wow, what a great start! This event is harnessing green energy.
Bullfrog Power, as I just learned, is Canada's 100% green energy provider, offers homes and businesses clean, renewable energy solutions.

I love hand made crafts, in fact, that day I was wearing my own handmade necklace.

The fair was bustling, since over 110 designers attended, this was their largest event yet.

I was blinded by all the beautiful hand crafted gems all around me.

I have always had a soft spot for things made with extra care.

Then I spotted a BUNNY HAT!!

Luck be a Versace

Trolling does pay off!!

Side note, Happy American Thanksgiving our neighbours down south.

I was somewhat disappointed after the 19th when all I could get were these babies.

In the end I decided not to keep them. Small chance I will be wearing them very often.

As luck would have it, yesterday turned out to be a great day!

As luck would have it again, yesterday was also my day off.
After I got dressed and posed for pictures thrice, I was ready to head out the door.

I absolutely love this top! It overwhelmed me the first time I put it on, but it quickly grew on me. I also have a incredibly difficult time refusing a thrift find.

The stroll to H&M was quite nice. The brisk air was nice to breath in. I did not mind it at all since my ears are kept very cozy.

I really did have the intentions to just do the refund. Until...

The next moments blurred really. I was over taken by excitement!! I think I tried on some heels and they kinda of killed my feet. But maybe I should just show you.

A Tale of Two Tent Cities: Versace for HM vs. Occupy Vancouver

To quote Dicksens, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair" This quote could not have set the tone better for this post.

I am playing journalist today.

The Versace for H&M collaboration launched at the Vancouver Pacific Centre store November 19th 8am. The queue to shop started much earlier outside on the cold, mean streets.

Versace for HM line-up, Versace, H&M, Pacific Centre
Versace for H&M line-up

Fashion die-hards and eBay opportunists brave the cold and started to occupy H&M 12hrs before the launch.

Wait, what say you? It was much longer than 12 hours? Apparently, the line started to form as early as 4:00pm the afternoon before!!  Well I say, good on ya, you fashion soldiers of fortune.  May your opportunistic spirit guide you to prosperity.

So who are you pitching a tent for these days?

Occupy Vancouver, Tent City, Line-up for Versace for H&M, Versace for H&M, Versace, H&M

Occupy Vancouver vs. Versace for H&M

We live what seems like the worst of times, and the best of times.

Here we see the occupy Vancouver tent city protesting the 1%. And down the street we have the fashion die-hards feeding the 1%.

Google map, Google map of Pacific Centre Core, Pacfic Centre, Vancouver Art Gallery, Tent city comparison

Tent City Locations

One tent city is filled with people that struggles to have their basic needs met in this is the winter of despair and beyond, while the other one is filled with people that struggle to get their superfluous wants met, what lies ahead for them is the spring of hope.

Seems like these days, if you believe in something, you have to show your faith by pitching a tent for it.

I pitch my tent for street style.

I would be more inclined to listen to the dwellers of Tent-city if they had a clear and concise message.

Occupy Vancouver Signs, Signs, Occupy Vancouver

I find the one that proclaims "what is our one demand CHANGE" particularly familiar.  I get asked that every time I walk around downtown Vancouver.

But instead, the protest is convoluted and directionless. Who are you really angry at? Do you really have a bone to pick with the "1%" that worked hard for their money. Not only that, they are also the job creators. Through their wealth, they give other people an opportunity to also become wealthy, or at least, meet their means. Perhaps it's time to do some self reflection? There are no handouts. If you don't want to be pitching a tent in the cold mean streets then do something about it. Stop complaining about your situation as if the world owes you. If your desire is to be coddled then move to a socialist country. Or, how about this concept? Get a job?!?!? Or is serving your capitalist overlords an equivalent of a “fashion don't”? But I digress; at least we know exactly why the people outside H&M were pitching their tent for.

This amazing collection.

Thus my support lies with these people. Your persistence and numbed body parts will not be for nothing. I would have joined you if I did not have to fulfill my obligations to my 1% the next day.

Items are already popping up on eBay. The leather goods especially are being sold for double.

Behind the glass lie the coveted treasures.

What is this? A Versace shopping bag you say?

Ta-da!

I couldn't let this go without at least visiting the store. When I got there, this is all that is left of the carnage.

The carnage

And the left over stock is rapidly depleting as well. So I snatched up this little number.

Spring of hope

Upon initial inspection, she's proven to be a challenge. However, I will best her and absorb her as part of my wardrobe!  But if not, I have 14 days to get my money back.

Or... will trolling H&M in the coming days be fruitful?

Versace for H&M wishlist

The impending release date of the Versace for H&M collaboration is soon to drop in Canada. November 19th to be exact.
Since I have to work on Saturday, I probably will not be able to join in on the fun. But maybe I can make something happen.

These are the items I have been drooling over since the get go.

My Versace or HM wishlist

Prices
Studded Purse, $199.00
Mesh bracelet, $34.95
Logo necklace, $59.95
Silk dress, $199.00
Pants, $34.95
Jacket, $349.00
Belt, $129.00
Suede boots, $179.00

The collection is super fun. Maybe I will be able to squeeze in a visit before I have to work? But after reading the how to shop section on H&M's website, my plan might be foiled after all.

Fashionista.com is a great source for all the latest fashion news.

Today, they posted a great article on designer collaboration with mass retailers.

In summary, the success of these collaborations is not measured in dollars, but rather media coverage and attention. They work as massive advertising campaigns for both the label and the retailer.

I personally think these collaborations are generally a good idea. Take for instance this particular one. H&M's e-commerce site crashed the moment the line was made available. I believe the frenzy will spread to Canada on the 19th as well.

Of course many of these pieces will end up on e-bay, when the patience of waiting for hours in the cold gets rewarded monetarily. Oh, and of course, you will also own a piece of fashion history.

The collection will come and go, but the effects will be everlasting. H&M will have added another designer name to their repertoire, and Versace would have gained many potential buyers.

So, how do I get myself some of that fabulous studded edge?

Me and My Technicolor Dreamtights

I refuse to let go of summer. Seems so short lived. And now Winter is approaching, I refuse to let go of fall by embracing summer. I know, makes no sense.
But finally, there were some days where, although it was cold, it was not unbearably so.

Time to have some fun.

Photography always have an amazing way of turning mundane places into magical playgrounds. How simple and provincial does this photo look. The muted landscape is the perfect backdrop for my loud and colourful accessories.

After warming myself up in the car, I was brave enough to embrace what is to come next. Oh how I wish I lived somewhere that is always warm and sunny. But alas my face betrays me.

These tights were meant to be part of a Halloween costume. My friend never ended up wearing them for Halloween. She then graciously given them to me as I have an unhealthy obsession for tights. They pretty much have a monopoly on the real estate south of my waist.

I love these tights, they are so much fun! A dash of "The Spy Who Shagged Me" and a dash of "The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". It is almost as if I can perform magic in them.
