Prabal for Target DIY Alterations

Sick of reading about the whole Prabal for Target thing on my blog? Well get used to it, there is more to come.

I got this dress because I fell in love with the print! For that particular print, it was only available in the shift dress by the time I got online.

It was too big, even though some forums have expressed that this collection fits small, but for some pieces, it fits TTS or on the larger side. This dress definitely fits in that category. I usually wear a small, but this small is medium on me. Or maybe I shrunk *tee hee*.

Anyway, I can't really wear this as is. Even though, I have styled it out into an outfit that received many likes on Instagram.

It could be because I am itching to use my sewing machine.

I have foreseen this dress turning into a crop top and a skirt. So on my day off, I got to work and got to cutting.

First, I sort of measured out where I wanted to cut with another skirt.

Then I proceeded to sever the dress into to two.

Soon, I had two pieces instead of one.

Now it's just a matter to refining.

For some reason, I am really digging cropped things lately. On top of that, a hi-lo crop top. So I made a hyperbolic cut in the front.

The result looks like thus.

But, I cut a little too high and now that top threatens to flash the under garment. Only one way to remedy this, drop the neck line to reprieve some length.

The end result is this, something more relaxed and beachy looking.

Now the bottom, this is where more heavy lifting is required.

Since the bottom portion is pretty large to sit naturally on my hips, I have to think of a way to remedy that.

The easiest thing to do is to make a draw string of sorts. I have yet to venture into "taking things in" territory.

So my first step is to fold the top down to make the encasement for the drawstring.

You can pretty much use any string for the drawstring string, but I decided to use the same material and cut off a thin strip from the skirt portion.

Now, just sew it up with the sewing machine.

And then pull the string through.

Now I have a super cute tennis like skirt.

I think I am much happier with how the skirt turned out than how the top did.

But now I do have two pieces of items with this crazy awesome print.

Did I make a huge mistake?

Well, good thing the dress is still in stores. Plus, this amazing top as well.

70's Floral with 70's Hair

As much as I miss my red hair, I do appreciate how much healthier my hair has gotten ever since I dyed it back black.

It's a sweet spot right now when the old red is peaking through from under the black dye. At least it's not completely gone right away.

From the daily abuse I have done to my hair, I was in desperate need of a conditioning treatment.

Good thing an old friend of mine just started at a new salon that offers that. If you live in Vancouver, I would definitely urge you to check out the Heartbreaker Salon. For $25, you can get an amazing conditioning treatment while reading some cat books and enjoying a beer. As for Kimiko, she will take care of ya. Check out her Instagram Profiile, @kimikostella.

She finished my cut and treatment with fun voluminous curls.

Check out the before and after.

Wow my hair was long.

The curls went great with my vintage floral shirt so I had to capture the look.

It was another sunny day thankfully. But too bad it's still so cold!

Sometimes though, it's hard to cover up such an awesome shirt with a jacket.

Too bad those flames don't really keep me warm.

Alexandre Vauthier

The Oscars is on Sunday. I am probably not the only one that watches it purely for red carpet action.

Ever since the Globies, I cannot get this dress out of my mind.

Michelle Dockery in Alexander Vauthier Couture, Couture gown, Award show gown, Gorgeous gown

After some interweb digging, I find out that this gown worn by Michelle Dockery is by Alexander Vauthier. Having worked in the Thierry Mugler design studio and worked as the head designer of Jean-Paul Gaultier's couture collection, this young designer has finally stepped out on his own.

He has created many masterpieces that graced many red carpets.

His Fall/Winter 2012 collection can only be described as ethereal creatures coated with gold, dipped in jewels and floated over snow.

Enjoy!

Posing in Vintage

Another year already.

Happy Birthday to me today. Why does 28 sound so much older than 27?

Today, is also the birth of something else. Of a new "identity" of sorts, or more appropriately, the evolution into the right identity. I will be migrating to a new web space very soon. The website it function now and will continue to be in conjuncture to this current one. But after I have all the technical things figured out, the two sites will be merged into one.

My new website will be called Posing in Vintage. As this year went by, I realized that my true love for fashion stemmed from my love for thrift and vintage shopping.

Reviewing my outfit posts has made it apparent to me that 95% of my outfit incorporates at least one piece of vintage/thrift item. Thus I find myself almost always be Posing in Vintage.

It describes me in a more apt way.

This blog has brought me on such a journey, it made me come into my own sense of style and with it, the new name.

Here to welcome the new site, another self portrait shoot of me, posing in vintage.

Lace has always elicited in me a sense of nostalgia.

I kept all the colours muted in this post to especially show off the red lip.

The sheerness of the back and the skirt adds another dimension of mystery.

I look forward to many more great years and even more great outfits.

The Blonds Fall 2013: Slasher Sashay

NYFW is wrapping up and Paris Fashion week is about to be under way. I am super excited to see what those lineaged fashion houses can offer.

One particular design duo that really blew me away at the NYFW is the Blonds. Their Fall 2013 collection, aptly named Slasher Sashay made me want to run away and become a runway model just so I can sashay away in those pieces.

With details made to imitate blood and gashes, they still managed to make the collection look ballroom ready.

Courtesy of http://fashionista.com/, here is the amazing runway show.
