Get catty with cat eye makeup

60s mod-inspired make up is in vogue again, especially the sassy wingtip trend. From the runways to the college corridors, it has been embraced by all. Whether it is Kim look to add an extra dose of glamour, or just to jazz up your daily make-up routine.

You might be surprised to know that the cat eye look dates back to the times of Cleopatra. Fashionistas in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia decided to make their eyes up in this manner to help keep irritating sand gnats from flying into the eyes and of course, the fashion queen Cleopatra was among the first to flick up her eye liner. This has become a lasting trend which finds favour in every fashion era.

According to some makeup artists, cat eyes have remained in vogue because of the technique that elongates round eyes, thereby making them appear more sultry. It is the most commonly used eye makeup for wedding, parties, nightclubs etc. It gives a unique twist to the eyes, making it look sexier, bolder and fierce.

Contrary to what most women think, it’s an easier look to create and carry off. Here are some tips to follow for that ‘meow look’,

The right liner
Make sure you have a liquid liner, since a pencil liner will never be able to give you the desired sharp look. Also, don’t consider this look if you have oily skin. The liner might melt and smudge in a few hours.
Though it is easier to draw your eyes with a pencil, but the edges will never come as sharp as it would with liquid liner or gel liners. If you aren’t confident with liquid liners, draw your eyes with a pencil and then touch it up with the liquid or gel liner at the edges, where the points need to be sharp.

Pointed brush
Use the right brush. For, the sleek lines depend solely on the brushes you use. You can also get more creative with the tip. In case, instead of a fine brush you are compelled to use a thick brush, beware of the result: chubbier lines and fatter cat eyes.

Highlight your other features
The cat eye look is a dramatic, versatile one. While you keep your face bare, you have the scope to gloss up your lips and go creative with your blush.

Less is more
In the daytime, pair your cat eyeliner with toned down or lighter lip colours. Whereas, for the evening, you can go the whole hog with bright red lipsticks or dark maroon ones. Since cat eye look is a heavy eye makeup, go for neutral shades of eye-shadows. The adage, ‘less is more’ can be your makeup mantra in this case.

Spring

The first day of Spring brought me what I thought was allergies.

It became much worst, it was actually a flu. Been bed bound and living in darkness and wasting many gorgeous days now.

But alas I cannot neglect this blog. I am dedicated to my craft.

Good thing I have the gift of foresight and took these photos much in advance.

prabal for target in closet

I actually ended up with a lot of pieces from the Prabal for Target love collection. What can I say, my excitement for this was seriously not contained.

My scouring paid off though. When I went to my second Target to see what else they may have in store for me, I scored this shirt for $9.00!

One of my favourite pieces from this collection are these amazing shoes.

They would go amazing with any summer or spring outfit. Except, I have yet to learn how to wear none platform shoes.

Oh health, why are you always taken for granted. I am going back to bed now and leave you with the image of me when I am healthy. Have a great day.

Swimco Packing for Paradise

It's officially the first day of Spring! Though it's no surprise that Vancouver has decided to welcome it with some stormy precipitation.

However, the event I attended last week organized by Brookline Public Relations, Inc. was perfect for the first day of Spring.

The Swimco Packing for Paradise event couldn't have come at a better time.

I am heading to paradise in the form of Dominican Republic in May.

The event kick started my spring with a fresh fashion show showing off some fun spring trends. As well, we were fed by Season's Catering and pampered by Posh Digits Nail Salon and Manifesto Lifestyle Salon.

We had so much fun.

I was parched when I arrived and these came in handy.

Then hunger kicked in and was sated by these delicious treats.

I love events that pays such attention to detail and coordinate other facets so seamlessly into the theme of the event.

Check out these great Packing Rules

Top 10 Packing Rules

Weekend getaway? A cruise? A few weeks at your favorite beach? No matter, follow these steps to get you & your stuff where you’re going.
Packing Rule #1 For attire, versatility is boss. If you can’t wear it on more than one occasion, don’t bring it.
Packing Rule #2 No matter the reason for your trip, it’s always a good idea to lay out your outfits before you start to fill your suitcase and decide what you’ll need & what you’ll wear with what. Remember the versatility rule, choose items you can wear with variety.
Packing Rule #3 Fold your clothes the retail way (or some people prefer to roll them)- this makes everything the same size so you get neat stacks.
Packing Rule #4 Avoid bulky clothing or items that take up a lot of room.
Packing Rule #5 Get yourself a double sided, zippered cosmetic travel bag that meets your needs. Always have it stocked with travel sizes of your facial routine, a small assortment of Q-tips, cotton balls, bobby pins, lip balm, etc. Restock when you’re unpacking and you’ll never have to worry about it.
Packing Rule #6 Take some time to check that all caps, lids, flip-tops are all securely closed, tightened or snapped shut. If it doesn’t snap or close tightly, you may have a mess to deal with.
Packing Rule #7 Use the pockets of your suitcase for things which don’t lie flat: swimsuits, crushable hats, underwear, bras, hairbrush, footwear and socks.
Packing Rule #8 Pack shoes last, sole up & wear your biggest shoes on the plane – you’ll save space in your luggage.
Packing Rule #9 Making the most of your carry-on. No one plans to lose their luggage but it can and does happen. Your carry-on is for the stuff you need until your luggage arrives: your swimsuit, electronic devices (cords & chargers too), any reading material or paperwork you may need for your trip, prescription medication, and if you wear contact lenses, keep your glasses & lens case in your carry-on.
Packing Rule #10 If you’re going to Europe or other spots abroad, remember you may need an electrical adapter.

Then the much anticipated fashion show kicked off.

Here are my favourite pieces from the show.

Swimco packing for paradise event fashion show, Blue checkered tankini from swimco

I never thought I was a tankini person, but on those days were you are feeling less than fabulous, this perfect piece offers the right amount of coverage while still preserving a sexy silhouette.

The next piece is my ABSOLUTE favourite!

Swimco packing for paradise event fashion show, Black fringe scrunch bum bikini from swimco

What's not to love in this fringe and scrunch bum combination. Once upon a time the scrunch bum biniki was reserved for Miami boutiques or can only be ordered online. I am so excited to see it being adopted far and wide. That is seriously the most flattering cut for bikini bottoms. It doesn't cut in at all, only flatters that bum you have been working so hard to show off.

The fringe on top just rounds off the entire outfit. Coachella anyone?

After the fashion show I was able to get some great make up and hair tips from Manifesto Lifestyle Salon that is very applicable to my upcoming trip.

swimco packing for paradise event, make up by maniifesto salon

The tip is to keep the face light and fresh with muted colours. At night, glam things up a bit with more shadow and that's all you need to go from day to night when you're on vacation.

I was quite excite to get some hair tips.

swimco packing for paradise event, hair by maniifesto salon

When it comes to hair it is all products and braids. To keep your hair easy and beach, section your hair off into four section and make some loose braids when your hair is damp. After your hair dries, you will have some loose tossled waves. Spray on some sunscreen for your hair and you're ready to go.

I wish I didn't just do my nails the night before. The ladies at Posh Digits Nail Salon can do a mean manicure. Plus those are very beautiful mystery hands.

I can't wait to use all the tips I have learned on my trip. I hope you can apply them too on your trips.

I think I dressed to part with my body suit and spiked bra. Don't you?

If I were to have one one-piece, this one would be it.

Is it May yet? Not yet? Well, I see many of these in my future.

Eastside Flea March 2013 Recap

I have discovered yet another treasure in this town.

The Eatside Flea. Held at 1882 Adnac Street The Wise Hall, it is a wonderful monthly occurrence.

Eastside Flea in Vancouver BC, Things to do in Vancouver, Vancouver, Event, Flea market, vintage shopping

On the set date, The Wise Hall transforms into a flea market in the best of ways. Vintage dealers, craftsman and antique hunters fill the space with the most amazing treasures.

One of my favourite vintage clothing picker duo had some of their amazing pieces at the Eastside Flea.

These ladies have the perfect eye for fashion, check them out at Hey Jude.

I hope they will be at the next market too.

There are always new discoveries as well.

My favourite discovery from the market are these guys. Rescued Relics.

This amazing team saves vintage furniture and other amazing items from the landfill and give them an opportunity to have a second perhaps third life.

I found the most amazing cowboy boots from them.

I can't wait to see what else they would bring to future events. It's situations like this that makes me want my own place to decorate as I please.

I cannot wait to visit the market in April. The next one is Sunday April 13th from 10am - 4:30pm at 1882 Adnac Street The Wise Hall. Mark your calendars and see you there.

I know Iulia Agnew would be there with bells on, or flowers.

I can't wait to see what this Fashion Week has in store for Vancouver.

I am going to be attending the Thursday shows.

  • 6:00pm Vivid Haiku & Malina K Summer Boots

Aside from time allowance, I am actually very excited for Thursday's show. There is just something about the raw creativity of emerging designers.

Their capacity to shock and awe is always amplified by their out of the gates raw energy.

Since I have no idea what I am in for, I feel like there is no need to choose an outfit just yet.

I do have many inspirations to choose from.

Should I go for baroque and be fun and flirty like AngelEye.

Happy Monday! Thank you for your patience, I am posting my first of many official posts shot by the amazing Iulia Agnew.

I am modeling one of many amazing vintage pieces in her store, PaintaDress.

The dress will be available soon, in the mean time, see what else she has.

UPDATE!! The dress is now listed in her store, you can buy it here.

This dress can be dressed up to down.

We stuck with a more dramatic theme with the jewelery.

But the entire look changes if you switch up the hardware. With this simple collar, it immediately takes on a more clean, fun and casual flare.

Louis Vuitton Fall 2013 Seriously Lounge Chic

Every time I see someone leave the house in pajamas it makes me cringe!

It signals a certain I've-given-up-ness to the world.

However, the new Louis Vuitton Fall 2013 runway collection challenges that notion.

Images curtsey of Refinery29.com.

I am so happy to see the resurgence of vintage silhouettes. This whole collection is oh so 50's boudoir wear with an elegant edge.

If you surround yourself with amazing clothes, then you will never have the opportunity to not look amazing. That includes chill clothes as well.

So if my pajamas looked like any of these, I would be more than happy to leave my house in them.

The whole show ties in the look of the collection with the models entering the mock hall way runway from faux hotel room doors.
