New York City and reflections on travelling

I have always thought travelling would be come a huge part of my life vocabulary. Jet setting from location to location have been romanticized by movies and TV shows. When I entered the bloggosphere is ever more so prolific.

I have often dreamt about having a career that required me to fly from location to location and living out of my Carry Bradshaw-esque suitcases.

However, as the years went by and I have matured, I have grown ever more attached to a home base. Being able to belong to a certain location is more important to me, plus I am also very bad at travelling by plane. The food makes me nauseated and I can never sleep. Lack of sleep is detrimental to pulling off an effortless yet "onfleek" photo.

Recently, I have also found myself lusting after locations more for the sake of an amazing photo rather than visiting for the sake of visiting. This New York trip I made myself focus on soaking in the city.

To be honest, I was not blown away. I had thought New York would be the pinnacle of everything that I find amazing, but the reality was a let down. I took a bite out of the Big Apple and I did not get enchanted. Perhaps I didn't go to the right locations? Or perhaps my love for Vancouver is much stronger. Either way, it was still a valuable self discovery experience.

My favourite location would have to be the Public Library at Bryant Park. I have such the soft spot for grand classic architecture!

Looking at these grand buildings is like look back in time. Breathing in a piece of history, soaking in the culture.

I would love to live in a building with such amazing details as the library. But with rental prices in the tens of thousands, will have to save that dream for a later time.

Now off to experiencing more things.
