Guinea a Shabby Apple Minute

I love vintage fashion. But sometimes, it's not so easy to find vintage items that fits well and are in good condition.

Enters Shabby Apple, a site dedicated to reviving vintage style.

They have skirts, dresses, swimwear, shoe and accessories made to satisfy any vintage fashion lover.

One Dress Multiple Ways

When thrifting, this is bound to happen.

You get presented by a certain article of clothing that's not a 100% but for some reason too good to pass up

As if you know it has unbelievable untapped potential.

For me it happens way too often. But recently it manifested itself in this school marm-y vintage dress.

vintage full length floral dress, school marm dress, floral print dress

As is this is a very boring article of clothing. Ill fitted and drabby.

But look at the print and the button!

My original plan was to cut this into a top and a skirt. Hands itching to start on another sewing project.

Just at home, I gathered up the hem and tied it and realized that keeping it intact gives me so many more options.

Option 1. Tie at the waist

It was just a test run when I first tried it on at Value Village. I ended up really liking the length of the ties and ultimate to decided not to cut it up.

Option 2. Bow at the waist

vintage full length floral dress, school marm dress, floral print dress

This is the second easiest way to style this top. Just take the waist tie and make it a bow tie.

Option 3. High low shirt

vintage full length floral dress, school marm dress, floral print dress

I found this style when I was playing around with the extra long ties from the first option.

To achieve this, find the last button at the tail end of the ties.

Then take them and wrap them around and button it up at the back.

This is how it looks like from behind

Viola, a super cute high low top. I liked it so much, that's what I left the house in that day.

Option 4. Belted

vintage full length floral dress, school marm dress, floral print dress, large elastic flower belt

I lied, this is probably the easiest way to style this piece. Any belt would do really, I just love the look of chunky belts.

Another plus, there are many other looks that can be achieved with the belt's presence.

Option 5. High low dress

vintage full length floral dress, school marm dress, floral print dress, large elastic flower belt

I love how cute this looks, and it's very simple to achieve. The belt acts as a great accent.

leave the bottom half unbuttoned and pick up the corners of the hem.

Then tuck the hem into the belt. It works much better with an elastic belt as it will hold the dress up better.

I like to leave the flower exposed. It spices up the whole look.

You can also use a plain belt and not expose any part of the belt in front, it will achieve a more seamless simple look.

Option 6. Long tail shirt

This look is super simple as well and it works especially well with high-waisted pants. You can also layer this on top of another dress or skirt.

To achieve this look, all you have to do is leave the bottom portion unbuttoned and gather the skirt portion behind.

This might be my favourite look yet. I can't wait to layer it over other things and play around some more.

Next time you go out thrifting and come across a fabulous dress like this, I hope you will remember this post and take her home with you.

Kiss of the Golden Sun

The weather gods have been extremely generous last week, until the weekend that is.

I still had enough time to go traipse around in my new maxi statement dress.

I have this dress in two colours.

I originally only knew of the dark version until I visited the websites that carried the dresses.

http://www.dollskill.com/unif-flounce-dress.html

http://www.karmaloop.com/product/219382

You can also get it here.

At the time, the dark version was only available in L, but the white version was available in all three sizes.

Knowing that the large may not fit as well as a medium and small I decided to order both dresses. The dark in a Large and the white in a Small and hoped for the best.

They both arrived super fast.

I am so glad I ordered them in both colours because even though they are the same dress, the colour difference dramatically changes the entire look.

I will do a side by side shoot in the future.

I love how this dress is short in the front, adding some sex appeal to a sweet print.

The only criticism I have is that I have to wear this dress with a belt. Perhaps it's the way it's cut, perhaps it's the shape of my body, if I don't cinch at the waist, the whole thing looks much more frumpy.

But my trusted flower belt from Gentille Alouette does the trick very well.

I also love clothing that takes on a life of their own when I move around.

The dress seem to be dancing with me.

The glow of the setting sun highlighting my outline makes my heart jump for the joy that it will be summer very soon.

That means, the dress can be worn without the accompaniment of these tights.

Who am I kidding, I will probably live in these tights through out summer.

Frolicking in Sunlight

April showers and May flowers they say. I hope they are right, we have been getting some extremely weird weather lately.

However, in all this erraticism we get beautiful peaks of sunlight that brightens the day.

Today, I will show you the perfect transition outfit. For unpredictable weather.

Last summer, while visiting my beautiful friend and shopping buddy in Toronto, I fell in love with these amazing Versace shades from the store she was working at Fashionably Yours.

Since she work there, I got these upside down orange shades for a steal.

I always trip people out when I wear them, they can't help but wanting to flip them over.

That's precisely why I love them so much.
Perfect for a day of frolicking in the sun.

Since it's not particularly that warm out yet, this leather jacket is the perfect outer wear. I am still amazed that I found it at Talize. Though it is not that evident in this photo, and sorry for forgetting to take photos of the back side, the fur trim looks like wings from the back.

If it gets warmer, a thin black cardigan will also do to cover up the outfit. Mine was from Aritzia awhile ago.

My favourite part of this outfit would have to be this tube dress.

From Gentille Alouette, it captures a sunny day perfectly. Light fabric, fun print with a touch of denim.

I like how all of the colours work really well together even though they are seemingly random pieces.

Versace for H&M wishlist

The impending release date of the Versace for H&M collaboration is soon to drop in Canada. November 19th to be exact.
Since I have to work on Saturday, I probably will not be able to join in on the fun. But maybe I can make something happen.

These are the items I have been drooling over since the get go.

My Versace or HM wishlist

Prices
Studded Purse, $199.00
Mesh bracelet, $34.95
Logo necklace, $59.95
Silk dress, $199.00
Pants, $34.95
Jacket, $349.00
Belt, $129.00
Suede boots, $179.00

The collection is super fun. Maybe I will be able to squeeze in a visit before I have to work? But after reading the how to shop section on H&M's website, my plan might be foiled after all.

Fashionista.com is a great source for all the latest fashion news.

Today, they posted a great article on designer collaboration with mass retailers.

In summary, the success of these collaborations is not measured in dollars, but rather media coverage and attention. They work as massive advertising campaigns for both the label and the retailer.

I personally think these collaborations are generally a good idea. Take for instance this particular one. H&M's e-commerce site crashed the moment the line was made available. I believe the frenzy will spread to Canada on the 19th as well.

Of course many of these pieces will end up on e-bay, when the patience of waiting for hours in the cold gets rewarded monetarily. Oh, and of course, you will also own a piece of fashion history.

The collection will come and go, but the effects will be everlasting. H&M will have added another designer name to their repertoire, and Versace would have gained many potential buyers.

So, how do I get myself some of that fabulous studded edge?

Flowers

Where I come from, it is called the city of flowers. The mild weather all year round has made it an ideal place for plants to grow. Though I have since departed my birth place, but the flowers have always followed me.This time, it is in the form of this gorgeous dress from Gentille Alouette.

I practically live in cowboy boots. What a great way to wear something so masculine with something ever so feminine. This pair is vintage and a gift from a friend.

This is a fun summer dress. Maybe a little formal for everyday wear. But I don't follow rules.Jasmine Zhu wearing Convertible floral tube dress purchased at Gentille Alouette, Vintage Fashion, Thrift Fashion, Street Style, Style

Gentille Alouette is a beautiful boutique in the historical Gastown of Vancouver, BC. I have passed by many times outside of their business hours. The window display is unique and captivating. I have always wanted to go in. Finally, during one of my trips wondering around town, I remembered that this little store is on Carrall street. The visit proved to be fruitful. Just my luck the owner, Eliza Lau, was in. Her taste matches mine almost exactly.

She has many unique feather accessories, as well as pieces designed by past participants of Project Runway Canada.

Well worth anyone's time of day.
