Reunited...

...and it feels so good!

With my black suspender tights that is!

The black counter part of these tights were bought together but never seen the light of day. Reason being, I ripped them even before I was done putting both legs through.

Anger and frustration could not even begin to cover my emotions that moment. As the comic book guy from the Simpsons would say, "there's no emoticon to describe what I am feeling right now".

However, yesterday I was reunited with them thanks to a lovely friend of mine! You know who you are :)

Except, these are even better. They are mesh instead of the typical nylon material. When I removed them from the package they already feel much sturdier. That's not to say I will treat them any less carefully.

I can't wait to take them out for a spin.

By the way, my Tobi haul also arrived on the same day.

The tights took precedence because I have decided to do a YouTube video reveal.

Hope you guys will stay tuned for that.

Thrift Shopping Haul video

Happy weekend everyone.

It's currently grey and weepy outside. Sorry for going "dark" this past week, I had good reason.

I was very busy working on this video!

Actually, I lied, Mike was busy working on this video, I was very busy being sick.

Something must be going around.

As promised by my last post I was going to make a video of my Talize Haul. Hope you guys enjoy it! We had a lot of fun, well mostly me.

Still feeling under the weather somewhat, brain is too scrambled to write in a more inspired way.

Sorry, promise I will make it up to you when I am better.

Love <3

Houndstooth and hippie saloon girl

As I mentioned in my Monday post that Talize my Holy Grail of thrift stores is having their 50% off sale again.

I almost didn't make it. But as timing would have it, a trip out their worked out just fine.

This haul is equally as impressive as my Boxing Day one.

So much so in fact we actually made a video is up (
which will be posted after editing, thank you for your patience) documenting my spoils. In this post, I actually will not go into detail on what I got, but instead will be focusing on one of my favourite outfits born from this trip.

Talize Haul, Talize, Houndstooth jacket, DIY hi low hem hippie skirt, Hippie Skirt, Hi lo hem skirt, Bow tie belt, Vintage brief case from Greece, Fioni clogs, Clogs, Suspender tights from Dynamite, Outfit Collage, Thrift fashion, Thrift finds, Street Style

Fioni clogs and vintage leather brief are both from Talize a while back.
Stockings from Dynamite
Bow tie belt from Forever 21, old

The jacket and the skirt make a very excellent pairing. I love mixing patterns. Even though there is no method to my madness, somehow things always end up working out.

Talize Haul, Talize, Houndstooth jacket, DIY hi low hem hippie skirt, Hippie Skirt, Hi lo hem skirt, Bow tie belt, Vintage brief case from Greece, Fioni clogs, Clogs, Suspender tights from Dynamite, Outfit Collage, Thrift fashion, Thrift finds, Street Style

The belted detail of the jacket gives the outfit the structure it needs by cinching me right at the waist.

Talize Haul, Talize, Houndstooth jacket, DIY hi low hem hippie skirt, Hippie Skirt, Hi lo hem skirt, Bow tie belt, Vintage brief case from Greece, Fioni clogs, Clogs, Suspender tights from Dynamite, Outfit Collage, Thrift fashion, Thrift finds, Street Style

The skirt would look excellent as a maxi-skirt, since with the help of the structured jacket, it would already create the illusion of the mile-long-leg. However, I just couldn't help but do something different to it.

Talize Haul, Talize, Houndstooth jacket, DIY hi low hem hippie skirt, Hippie Skirt, Hi lo hem skirt, Bow tie belt, Vintage brief case from Greece, Fioni clogs, Clogs, Suspender tights from Dynamite, Outfit Collage, Thrift fashion, Thrift finds, Street Style

I simply flipped inwards the front portion of the hem; thus magically creating a hi-low hem skirt. Something I have been coveting for many moons.

The hi-low hem is fun and flirty, I guess that's why you often see them on Saloon girls.

Hundstooth and hippie saloon girl, yup, I can rock this to work today no problem.

My Winter Survival Kit

Happy Friday!

Winter is not my favourite time of the year, but it comes nonetheless.

I have developed some coping mechanisms. Aside from reminiscing about summer, I have also developed a survival kit to help me get through the cold dread.

The kit consists one from each of the following categories.

First, must take care of the noggin'. A lot of heat is lost from the top of the head.

trapper hat from gap, GAP, trapper hat from H&M, H&M, fur trapper hat from Turnabout, Turnabout, Fur trapper hat, knitted head band from Gentille Alouette, Eliza Lau creation, ear muffs from Forever 21, Ear muffs

From top left to bottom right.

Knitted head band from Gentille Alouette hand knitted by the talented owner Eliza Lau herself.
Fur trapper hat seen here, from H&M
Amazing over the top fur trapper hat from Turnabout, Broadway location.
Earmuffs

Then, you have to take care of your neck. A lot of heat also get lost from the neck and chest area.

fur scarf, Talize finds, infinity scarf, multi coloured infinisty scarves, silk obakki scarf, mohair infinity scarves

From top left to bottom right.
Fur scarf that can also be turned into a vest seen here, from Talize.
Silk scarf from Obakki.
Ombre scarf seen here, from Talize.
All scarfs on the bottom row are self made infinity scarves. They were from various thrift stores. The green one can be seen styled here. The orange one can be seen styled here.

Then, take care of the torso.

Various sweaters, Vintage sweaters, Ugly sweater, chunky cable knit sweater, hobo sweater, patterend sweater

These sweaters are all from various places. Thrift stores, my boyfriend's closet and my dad's closet.

Of course we can't forget about accessorizing. All those chunky sweaters can really make one lose one's figure.

Cue the belts. 100% of belts are not longer used to hold up my pants. However, for some reason, being able to bi-sect my body with an interesting and colourful item seem to make everything so much better.

Flow belts, Gentille Alouette, H&M, Versace, Yellow bow belt, Pink belt, Studded belt, flower belts and bow belt from gentille alouette, zara studded belt, versace for HM pink belt, vintage belt

From top left to right.
Flower and yellow bow belt seen here and here are all from Gentille Alouette.

Vintage belt from Toronto.

For my kit today, I have decided to choose the following items.

cable knit chunky sweater,, ombre scarf, fur trapper hat, white cable knit chunky sweater, black flower belt from Gentille Alouette, Gentille Alouette, Talize find, Turnabout find

Honestly, my favourite part of the whole outfit is my furry crowning glory! So much so that I had to savour each moment I have to put it on.

The white sweater is amazingly warm, and with my neck and head protected, I can brave any winter. Except for maybe those "real" ones the rest of Canada gets.

Deepcove, fur and my LV Multicoloured Sologne

Vancouver has finally awaken to a dusting of snow. I remember I used to be so mesmerized by the beauty of the falling flurry.

That magical blanket of white stuff always manages to make everything look that much more beautiful. But ever since I started driving, that sentiment is not quite the same.

Nonetheless, I wish I had captured the pure beauty of the white blanket. Instead, let's rewind a little to just before the snow has fallen.

I myself have something that is canvased in white.

Yearning for SUNmer

Hump-day is a real thing! Even though Wednesday was my day off, it still did not help to lift the everlasting dread placed upon me by the endless grey weeping sky and post holiday blues.

Strange, I never had a case of the SADs this bad. It lead to over rest during the day and then under rest at night. Insomnia has a new name. Or, it's because I have a bunch of socks in my hair.

Sock curl tutorial video

Just learned how to achieve dolly curls without any heat from YaYa Lifestyle. YaYa has amazing hair and she does the best hair tutorials. Anything that will save my time in the morning and won't damage my hair I am all for it.

So the new name for insomnia really should be "beauty". *chuckles at irony*

I guess I will know in the morning if it works.

Anyway, what I need is some sun, and today (I mean Wednesday), I have chosen to artificially create it by escaping into some past photos.

Flower dress, flower belt, Gentille Alouette, yellow daisies

Dress and belt from Gentille Alouette my of my absolute favourite stores. Which reminds me, I am about due for a visit.

No joke, thinking about a warmer place and/or time did get me through the day slightly easier. Summer, you are both past and the future, soothes me in knowing that the cyclical nature of the season will unite you with me again. I can't wait to dress for the warmer months again!

All this day dreaming put me in a real shopping mood. I decided to visit one of the stores that I haven't gone to in a long time, Turnabout Clothing. The Granville location is their biggest store, it is also where I first dipped my feet into designer handbags. The store rarely does me wrong. Although, to consign with them is another story. Be prepared to lug your entire net worth there if you want to open an account. Okay, that was a slight exaggeration, ha! But, they do want the consignee to make at least $300 a season. Their consignment split is 60%/40% in their favour, and they also routinely mark items down, so, you do the math. The problem with me is, I never want to get rid of any of my expensive things.

This visit was quite fruitful, I came home with many items well under their retail value.

First are these lovely American Apparel tights.

American Apparel Geo Mesh Tights in Twilight, American Apparel Tights, Geo Mesh Tights, Turnabout find

American Apparel Geo Mesh Tights in wild dove, American Apparel Geo Mesh Tights, American Apparel , American Apparel Tights, Geo Mesh Tights

Don't fret, these tights were not used. They were new. $7 dollars each, instead of $26.00.

So was the next item, which is a Solo Moda vest. I didn't actually take a photo of the vest, but I assure you it will turn up in future posts. Please stay tuned. Since it was new it came with a tag, it said it retails for $80, after discount, I got it for $20.

And I saved the best for last!

Ah yes, the lovely Gwen, is there anything she can't do? I have always loved her style, I was very excited when she launched L.A.M.B. and now I am so excited to have my own piece of it.

What a great piece to start my collection with?

Now that my day of spending is done, I can't help but think of this Andy Warhol quote.

Andy Warhol, Andy Warhol quotes, wasting money puts you in a real party mood

Though I'd hardly call it wasting money, since it did cure my rainy day blues!

(It's now Thursday) Oh, sock curls totally worked! Yay heat free dolly hair! Totally check out YaYa on her YouTube Channel

I will still need some more practice to have it look as perfect as YaYa's, but it's a start.

And what do you know, the sun responded to my yearning after all.

Dress hemming DIY, Prada and Suspenders

Happy Monday!!! I hope most of you are cozy at home enjoying the last stat before you set out to start "real life" again.

I am at work already. Don't feel too bad for me though, I didn't have to start that early.

It's already been a pretty productive start to the year.

We made our first video! It can also be found at the right hand column. That's where all the future videos will eventually rest.

The footage for the opening sequence was shot awhile ago. Finally, we had the right topic and the video was born!

It's a tutorial video on how to hem a dress without cutting and sewing. I am pretty lazy when it comes to altering clothing. I also don't like to make permanent changes; therefore, I try to look for the easiest possible way to change something that doesn't actually require me to do anything complicated. I don't even own a sewing machine anyway.

Hope you guys enjoyed the video. The end result of my DIY hemming accompanied me to a wonderful day at Granville Island.

It was a brisk and cloudy day. Once again, this outfit is mostly "sponsored" by Talize. The velvet jacket, scarf and what's underneath are all from Talize. The suspender tights are from Urban Outfitter. Though I don't think they sell them anymore. But ASOS still has them. I should get myself another black pair and make sure I don't rip them this time. The shoes are by Rocket Dog.

I love the purse! I got it from Ann's Fabulous Finds. This amazing designer consignment store ran by wonderful people!

The briskness finally got to me, need to head inside to warm up. Hmmm, Mint Mocca!

Also a great opportunity to reveal the dress that I hemmed without sewing!! I absolutely love the way it looks, especially paired with the wide flower belt I got from one of my favourite local boutiques Gentille Alouette

Post Boxing Day Boxing Day

I decided not to go boxing day shopping this year. At first it seemed like such an awesome idea. But by the end of the day, I went stir crazy. Note to self, deprivation is never the way to go. When not doing a certain activity, one must replenish with another activity in the same intensity.

Sitting at home instead of shopping was definitely not an equal exchange.

Luckily for me, Talize had their "boxing day" on the 27th this year. Everything 50% off!

This is my haul!

Clothes in a pile, Talize haul, leather jacket, hm garden shirt, parasuco shirt, fringe suede leather vest, scarf, sequined top, little black dress

These days, boxing day lasts for at least a week it seems. Making going shopping on the 26th more of a sport training event than anything else. My vote next year is to visit boutiques, they would much more likely hold one-day sales that is true to Boxing Day.

Last year, I went to Talize on the 26th because they had their 50% off sale then. But this year, I received an email that they were to have the 50% off sale on the 27th. It is a very smart strategy in my opinion. Since people are probably shopping at full price retail on the 26th. And it has given me a second chance to scratch my deal seeking itch.

I am very happy with what I went home with. The best part is, I spent less than 60 dollar! Wee!

I can't wait to incorporate them into my wardrobe.

Let's take a closer look at some of the items.

I have always been a fan of Parasuco in my younger years. Their designs in the early 2000's is fantastically awesome. Recently though, it seems they have gone the safer route. But this shirt is definitely from the earlier genre.

Parasuco white lace like shirt, white lace shirt, parasuco, Talize Find, Thrift Fashion

I am a child of the 80's. More so than ever I have been embracing the shoulder pads. I love all things retro and this leather jacket sums it all up. It's buttery soft and beautifully worn in. Yet it's in impeccable condition. Best part of this, it was only $7.00 after the discount! Oh, not to mention, I have ALWAYS wanted one with the detail on the sleeves, collar and the lining.

80's leather jacket, retro leather jacket, Totally 80's women's leather jacket, 80't leather jacket made in England, Talize Find, Thrift fashion

The shirt lends itself well to layering since it is so form fitting. With the addition of this detailed sweater, a scarf and the leather jacket, an outfit is born. All courtesy of Talize!

retro leather jacket, parasuco shirt, sweater, scarf, Talize finds, Thrift finds, thrift fashion, totally 80's women's leather jacket, layering

The disco pants in this post would finish off the outfit beautifully.

From my haul, forms yet another outfit. This time, one decade older.

Welcome to the flower child era of the 70's. By this, I mean the H&M Garden Collection white cotton shirt and this awesome suede fringe vest.

HM garden white cotton shirt, suede fringe vest, 70's suede vest, Talize find, Thrift fashion

Some say that fringe is out, it was doomed from the start anyway. Something so impractical and filled magic can't possibly be made to last. But I never obeyed any rules any way. To finish off this outfit, I would borrow the bottoms from this post.

Finally, something with a bit of sparkle. Just in time for the last party of the year.

Little black dress, beaded cropped top, new years eve dress, Talize find, thrift find, thift fashion, party fashion

I actually walked past that top three times. Hesitated and left it alone again and again. Until finally I decided there would be no harm in trying it on. What do you know, it would end up being one of my favourite purchases that day.

I can never get sick of that feeling when at the check out, my total comes to the amount of how much one retail item would cost me.

Thrifting, definitely an art form that requires a little bit of timing, a little bit of luck and a lot of patience. It is also so rewarding when shopping means saving the planet and donating to charity.

A Little 40's, Fur and Velvet and Versace

'Tis the time for festive parties.

In addition to the hustle and bustle of end of year celebrations, my favourite thing about this time of the year is parties. Getting dressed to impress and set out on the town.

This year, I am channeling the 40's. Starting with this lovely leading lady on the silver screen.

Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffanys poster, Breakfast at Tiffanys

From her inspiration, I have conjured up this outfit.

Fur Shawl, velvet gown, Versace for Hm chocket, Gold clutch

Velvet gown from Le Chateau, a while ago

I love the silhouette of a full length gown. It has such understated elegance, yet it makes a big statement.

Versace for HM choker, velvet dress, party dress, party style, chic style, street style, curly hair

In addition to that extra sparkle of the Versace for H&M logo choker. Adds just the right amount of glitter. Not over powering but enhances the whole look.

Versace for H&M logo choker, Versace for H&M, Velvet Gown, party style, party fashion, chic dress, 40's inspired, curly hair

I love my hair. The owner of Impulse Hair and Nail Salon is a friend of mine from highschool. She is meticulous and skillful. I have never left feeling disappointed. Any special occasion, if possible, I will always seek her magic.

Versace for H&M logo choker, Curly hair, Velvet dress, party style

The finishing touch has to be this beautiful vintage fur shawl.

Versace for H&M choker, Velvet gown, fur shawl from Talize, Talize find, curly hair, party style, chic style, party dress, 40's inspired

Again, Talize comes through. This is one of my most prized finds from there.

Now I am ready to set out on the town.

But wait, this joyous occasion cannot be complete without my true companion. He's featured in the "About" page. Not only is he an instrumental part of this site, he is also my one and only. I feel truly blessed to have him by my side.

Zara suit, Ralph Lauren shirt, Velvet gown, Versace for H&M choker, dapper style, men's fashion, party style, curly hair, party style, chic style

On him, Zara Euro cut silver suit. Best part, it was on sale.
Calvin Klein dress shirt. It was also on sale from the Seattle Premium Outlets.
Brown loafers from Nordstrom Rack.
Proving that men can look great on a budget as well
The trick though, is tailoring.

Hope everyone is having a festive party season.
